Zambian Musenga Silwawa developed a spot fertilizer applicator that releases just the right of amount of fertilizer into the ground and saves farmers time and energy. His invention has two parts: a 15-kilogram backpack for the fertilizer and an applicator arm that operates like a walking stick. The fertilizer flows from the backpack to the arm to the ground. The arm opens a hole in the soil, releases the right amount of fertilizer, then buries the fertilizer with soil.  His innovation is impacting millions of small scale farmers around the world.
